Disclosure Requirements

The University of Kansas maintains disclosure processes that align with NSPM-33, requiring investigators to report financial interests, time commitments, and foreign affiliations using standardized federal forms and University disclosure systems. These processes apply consistently across all KU campuses and incorporate agency-specific guidance from NIH, NSF, and DOE. Expanded requirements include other support and Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program disclosures.

Summary

The University of Kansas aligns its disclosure processes with federal NSPM-33 guidance, requiring investigators—including PIs, Co-PIs, and key personnel—to disclose financial interests, time commitments, and other support. These disclosures must be included in sponsor-required forms such as biographical sketches and current/pending support documents. Processes span across KU campuses and include requirements for reporting outside employment, consulting, foreign talent program involvement, and institutional conflicts. Faculty are expected to comply with university, state, and federal regulations, and disclosures are managed through research administration systems, standardized forms and procedures. Agency-specific guidance from NIH, NSF, and DOE is incorporated into policies and guidance materials to ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.

Federal Alignment with NSPM-33: Policies explicitly align with federal NSPM-33 guidance, requiring disclosures in standardized formats (e.g., Common Forms for Biosketch and Current/Pending Support).

Expanded Scope of Disclosure: Disclosure requirements include clarity with respect to reporting of time commitments and foreign talent program involvement. Venture capital relationships have been added to our disclosure forms.

Cross-Campus Consistency: The document references processes that apply across KU campuses, promoting consistency between KU-Lawrence, KUMC, KU-Wichita, and KU-Salina.

Integration with Employee Responsibilities: The guidance ties disclosure obligations to employee responsibilities, emphasizing compliance with travel, consulting, and external employment policies.
